8 reasons to settle in Mauritius
(and how to do it)

Did you fall in love with “the perfumed country which the sun caresses”, just like Charles Baudelaire? Would you like to settle in Mauritius? Here’s how.

1. An exceptional quality of life

Choosing to live in Mauritius is choosing a new lifestyle: one between sky and sea, far from the pollution of major cities. While living a steady paced life, you are always a stone’s throw from the beach and from nature. It is the ideal setting to spend happy days or to see your children growing up.

2. A complete educational offer

From kindergarten to university, Mauritius offers a complete educational offer. You can choose between public and private schools as well as internationally recognised French or English speaking institutions. Furthermore, at tertiary level, a wide variety of courses are on offer in various fields.

3. Accessible medical services

Once again, you have the choice between public services (free and accessible to all those who reside on the territory) or private care (paying). The island has five large regional hospitals (Pamplemousses, Candos, Port Louis, Rose Belle, Flacq) and the most famous private clinics are Fortis Clinique Darné, Wellkin Fortis and Clinique du Nord.

4. A stable political environment

Mauritius is a parliamentary republic, a stable democracy where free elections are held, and with a positive human rights track record. The country attracts considerable foreign investment and has one of the highest per capita incomes in Africa.

5. An increasingly connected island

Optical fiber is now available on the island and, soon, MyT (the local telco) will deploy this technology throughout its whole network. In its 2017 report, the Alliance for Affordable Internet ranked the country 8th worldwide.

6. An attractive tax system

Mauritius is a low-tax jurisdiction that notably includes a standard tax of 15% applicable both to corporations and income tax; no taxation on capital gains; no withholding tax on interest and dividends; free repatriation of profits, dividends and capital…

7. A multicultural landscape

What makes Mauritius so rich is not only its beautiful landscapes but also its vibrant cultural heritage. The island is a real “melting pot” that is reflected in the origins of its inhabitants, its cuisine spiced by a thousand flavors, its customs and traditions, and an array of different forms of art.

8. A strategic location

The stable political and economic environment of Mauritius make it the ideal place to set up your business if you target Africa or the Indian Ocean region. The Mauritian government’s goal is to promote the country as a regional storage, distribution, marketing and logistics platform for East and South Africa, as well as the Indian Ocean.

How to settle in Mauritius?

You can opt for the Occupation Permit (OP) which is a work and residence permit allowing non-citizens to live and work in Mauritius. You can also apply for a Permanent Residence permit that allows non-citizens to work and live in Mauritius for a period of ten years.
